It’s been almost a year since American Girl Place opened its new flagship store at Rockefeller Plaza in NYC! The nearly 40,000 sq/ft, two-story store features more services and amenities for girls and dolls alike from the Create-Your-Own design studio, customized party options in the new Café, Content Hub to view the company’s movies and videos, to a Doll Hospital. But what we are most proud of is how this project represents our ability to build long-standing relationships with clients like American Girl to help execute their creative visions – in this case spanning over a decade!
Construction is underway for The Hard Rock Hotel and Casinos newest addition. Expected to open in the fall of 2019, the guitar-shaped hotel will include 638 hotel rooms plus 168 rooms in the pool tower overlooking a private Bora-Bora style cabana area in the center of a 10-acre lagoon style pool, private villas with butler service, water-sport activities and a day club. The new casino will bring an additional 3,000 slot machines, 193 table games, and a 46-table poker room to South Florida’s already well-renowned gambling hot-spot. There will also be 30 new restaurants, lounges and bars, a 41,000 sq/ft Rock Spa, 6,500-seat Hard Rock Live concert venue, which will house its own television studio and broadcast center capable of hosting awards shows and other events, 21,000 sq/ft of new retail space, and 20,000 sq/ft of meeting and convention space. The guitar-shaped hotel comes to fruition in the wake of a 2017 deal that was made with the state and extended the Seminoles’ statewide monopoly on banked card games, including blackjack, at its casinos to 2030. The hotel has long been touted as an economic reward to the state for reaching an agreement with the Seminoles and Hard Rock International. Just the hotel alone has generated about 2,000 construction jobs and is expected to create 2,000 more permanent jobs. Hollywood Woodwork is proud to collaborate with Seminole Gaming and Suffolk/Yates in this incredible masterpiece!
As the end of summer approaches so does our summer internship program! Christian Dominguez, Nathan Patterson, Kurt Mcdonough and Curtis Kunard from Pittsburg State University have been great assets this summer at Hollywood Woodwork. All were enrolled in PSU’s Architectural Manufacturing Management & Technology program which has a comprehensive curriculum that uses a unique “hands-on” approach to learning designed to provide graduates with a broad base of technical knowledge and skills. Much of the coursework is production based and blends classroom theory with real-world product and process engineering problems. This program is one of the top wood processing programs in the United States. Pittsburg State University is a national leader in the preparation of students for rewarding managerial careers in the secondary wood products industry. Christian interned with our Engineering Team and is returning to PSU to begin his senior year in the AMMT program pursuing his career goal of Engineering and Drafting. Nathan focused his short time here with our Project Management Team and spent the remainder of his summer in an Army Training Camp and is now returning to PSU. Kurt interned with our Sales and Estimating Team and spent time on the production floor learning our processes and identifying opportunities for improvements and he also is returning to PSU. Curtis interned in Engineering and is now the newest member of Hollywood Woodwork, joining our Engineering Team full time. Good luck Christian, Nathan, Kurt and congratulations Curtis!
